Car collecting can be a fun and rewarding hobby. There are many different ways to collect cars, from classic and antique cars to modern and exotic cars. Whatever your taste, there is sure to be a car collection that is right for you. Collecting cars can be a great investment, as well as a way to enjoy your passion for automobiles. Luxury car collections are widespread in Los Angeles. With so many celebrities and wealthy residents, it’s no surprise that some of the most amazing cars in the world can be found cruising down Sunset Boulevard or parked in one of the city’s many high-end neighborhoods. While most car collections are private, there are a few that are open to the public.
Here’s a look at some of LA’s most impressive luxury car collections:
The Petersen Automotive Museum is one of the best places to see an amazing collection of cars in Los Angeles. The museum has over 300 vehicles on display, ranging from classic cars to modern supercars. The collection includes everything from a 1923 Bugatti Type 32 racing car to a McLaren P1 GTR. If you’re interested in seeing some of the world’s rarest and most valuable cars, the Petersen Automotive Museum is definitely worth a visit.
Another great place to see an incredible collection of cars is Jay Leno’s Garage. Jay Leno is perhaps best known for his role on The Tonight Show, but he’s also an avid collector of vintage and exotic automobiles. His garage houses over 150 vehicles, including a 1904 Renault AK-400 and a 1966 Batmobile replica. Visitors can take tours of Jay Leno’s Garage when it’s not being used for film or television productions.
If you’re looking for something really unique, then you might want to check out Michael Fux’s car collection. Fux is a billionaire businessman who has an impressive collection of over 200 automobiles, many of which are one-of-a-kind customizations or limited edition models. Some highlights from his collection include a Rolls-Royce Sweptail (valued at $13 million) and a Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita (valued at $4.8 million).
The Nethercutt Collection is another must-see for car enthusiasts visiting Los Angeles. This private collection includes over 250 classic and antique automobiles, as well as motorcycles, musical instruments, and other memorabilia. Ayn Rand’s Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster is part of a luxury car collection belonging to novelist Ayn Rand. Her collection includes just three vehicles: a 1936 Mercedes Benz 540K Special Roadster, a 1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Phaeton Convertible (one of only four ever made), and a 1938 Talbot Lago T150C SS Figoni & Falaschi Teardrop Coupe (one outfitted with uniquely French “fishtail” rear fenders). All three vehicles were purchased new by Rand and remain in pristine condition today.
Bruce Meyer’s Classic Car Collection Another notable LA car collector is Bruce Meyer, co-founder of the Peterson Automotive Museum (mentioned above). His personal collection includes around 150 classic automobiles – many of which have been featured in films and television shows over the years – and 30 motorcars from his own personal stable including Ferrari Testarossas, Bizzarrinis, Shelby Cobras, Jaguar XKSSs ,and Lamborghini Miuras . While Meyer doesn’t allow public access to his garage (he calls it his “man cave”), several times a year he opens it up for charity events where attendees can get an up-close look at his impressive collection.
It’s no secret that Los Angeles is home to some of the world’s most impressive luxury car collections.
From Rolls-Royces and Bentleys to Ferraris and Lamborghinis, LA’s wealthiest residents spare no expense when it comes to their ride. But what’s even more fascinating than the cars themselves are the stories behind how these collectors came to acquire their stunning vehicles. For some, it’s a lifelong passion that began at an early age. Others have built their collections from scratch, using their keen eye for detail to source only the finest automobiles. Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure: LA’s luxury car collectors are a breed unto themselves. And we’re grateful they’re willing to share their incredible collections with the rest of us!
